I just got a 96 Ford Taurus GL from my neighbor for free.
I had to replace the starter, battery, alternator brush kit.
& a oil change with filter. The car has not been started in
over 2 years as she stated. Well after all the repairs the check
engine light came on. I did a Obd code check and the reader
brought up a code P0443 stating it was a emissions control
system purge valve circuit. Since I don't know anything about
the Taurus im posting this on here to get some heads up what
to look for. Where is the purge valve located & where is the
circuit? Relay??

Had same problem with my 97. Over the course of a year and a half I checked or peplace everything in the circuit with no results. found the cure last month. Under the rear passenger side door is the fuel filter. Next to it is a metal tube with a fitting in it. Open the fitting and empty the line of any fuel. Clear the code and you should be good to go.
